Sant Maluk Das, (1574-1682), was a great poet saint, born in Kada, near Allahabad, India. His fame as a holy man spread far and wide. Even members of other religious groups were convinced of the purity and sublimity of his character. Guru Tegh Bahadur met him in 1666 while travelling to the eastern districts. Maluk Das had heard about Guru Nanak and the spiritual line issuing from him. Emperor Aurangzeb also recognized Sant Maluk Das’ true worth and greatness and conferred two villages for the maintenance of his Gaddi (spiritual seat). Thus his spiritual outlook was all embracing. His heart was open to all without any distinction of caste or creed. The samadh of Maluk Das still exists and is visited by Hindu and Muslim devotees.
